In Ethiopia there is a common saying “bet seri dem yelewem,” meaning a home builder doesn't have blood or gives blood. It has been a norm that a project, big or small, equally depletes the owner of energy, time and unforeseen money expenditures.

Founder / Practicing Professional Engineer

Civil engineering has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was born into a family of civil engineers, and I sometimes joke that I was raised to be an engineer from birth. They practically gave it to me in a bottle.

That early exposure grew into a career spanning engineering, construction management, business leadership, and entrepreneurship. I have led complex commercial, residential, institutional, and infrastructure projects across Ethiopia, including reinforced concrete buildings, residential developments, airports, industrial facilities, water systems, bridges, and a 5,000-seat church.

I have worked as an engineer, project manager, general manager, and company founder, giving me experience across every stage of construction, from design and planning through procurement, logistics, budgeting, execution, and final delivery.

Today, I lead a construction management and engineering firm in Addis Ababa with 18 permanent staff and more than 100 laborers and subcontractors working across our projects. We provide design-build services so clients have one team responsible for the project from beginning to end. We manage budgets carefully, coordinate contractors and suppliers, and use modern equipment and construction methods to help projects stay on schedule, on budget, and aligned with the client’s expectations.

My ambition is to build one of Addis Ababa’s most respected construction firms, known not simply for the buildings we complete, but for the value we create.

I am particularly interested in developing innovative approaches to housing that can reach a much broader segment of Ethiopian homeowners. Quality housing should not be limited to people with the largest budgets. I believe thoughtful design, better construction methods, efficient use of materials, and disciplined project management can make well-built homes more attainable while still giving families the quality of life they want.

I am also committed to incorporating more energy-efficient building practices into Ethiopian construction. As our cities grow, we have an opportunity to build in ways that reduce energy consumption, improve long-term operating costs, and create more comfortable and sustainable places to live and work.

For me, construction is ultimately about solving problems: how to build better, how to use resources more intelligently, and how to create spaces that improve people’s lives.
